“Human in the loop” appears on almost every AI phone product’s website. It rarely comes with a description of what actually happens when the AI hands off. This page describes how IzzyOps (working name) is designed to do it: what triggers the handoff, what travels with the caller, what the person on the other end sees, and how the caller knows they will not have to repeat themselves. These are capability statements about the platform’s design; Redial will publish measured handoff results once pilots have produced them.
The handoff is exercised far more often than most buyers assume. In one AI receptionist vendor’s analysis of 1,446,980 calls, 73.8% of the actions the AI took were transfers to a person, a share of the AI’s actions rather than of all calls, but a clear signal of how much traffic the handoff path carries 1. In a 2025 survey of 1,011 US adults, 71% had encountered situations where AI struggled with a complex issue 2. If the handoff drops context, the AI has made the hard calls harder. Zendesk’s research puts the stakes plainly: 74% of consumers are frustrated when they have to repeat information, and 81% want the conversation to continue without backtracking 3.
The business sets the rules, and the digital agent follows them. Handoffs are designed to be triggered by:
When a handoff is triggered, the person taking the call is designed to receive the conversation history and the context around it:
The person sees that before speaking, so the first words the caller hears are not “How can I help you?” but a continuation of the conversation they were already having.
The destination is yours to choose, and it can differ by hour or by rule 4:
Redial’s Mexico delivery centers in Tijuana and Mexicali operate in alignment with US Pacific, Mountain, and Central time, which is what makes a live handoff during US business hours practical, with South Africa and the Philippines covering extended hours 5.
The design goal is a warm handoff: the agent tells the caller a person is joining, and that the person already has the details, and then the person continues the conversation rather than restarting it. Where a person is not immediately available, the agent is designed to tell the caller what will happen next (a callback window, a text with confirmation) instead of leaving them on an unexplained hold. Time to human is one of the measures Redial will instrument from the first pilot call; the target for a front desk is seconds, not the 15 minutes California’s AB 1609 now sets as the standard for the largest businesses 6.
Redial’s role is the person on the other end of the handoff and the operating discipline around it: the rules, the QA that checks whether callers were asked to repeat information already given, and the scorecard. The Handoff Standard pillar in the Contact Center Solutions section sets out the five requirements Redial holds any handoff to, including its own.
Can a caller ask for a person at any time?
Yes. The digital agent is designed to honor a request for a person immediately, in English or Spanish, rather than trying to keep the caller in the automated flow.
What does the person taking the call actually see?
The conversation history and context: who is calling, why, what the agent already did, why the handoff was triggered, and the language. The exact format of what is passed is being confirmed with IzzyLabs ahead of commercial availability and will be documented here.
Is the handoff a warm transfer or a cold transfer?
The design goal is a warm handoff, in which the caller is told a person is joining with the details already in hand. Redial will publish the measured share of warm handoffs and the time to human from pilot data rather than assert it in advance.
Who decides which calls go to a person?
You do. The business sets the policy rules (for example, complaints or payments always go to a person), and the agent follows them, in addition to honoring any caller request for a person.
What happens after hours when nobody is available?
With AI-only or AI-plus-your-team options, the agent is designed to book, take a message, and tell the caller when to expect a response. With the AI-plus-Redial option, Redial teams can take the handoff during extended hours, subject to the coverage agreed for your program.
Descriptions only go so far. Book a demo of IzzyOps (working name) and listen to a sample call carried from the digital agent to a person with the conversation already in hand. Commercial availability is planned for late 2026 to early 2027; demos and the early-access list are open now.
