For Owner-Operated and Small-Team Businesses
Some missed calls are missed because nobody picked up. Others are missed because the person who picked up could not help. For a service business in California, Texas, Florida, Arizona, or almost any large metro, the second kind is common, and it is invisible in your call log. This page sets out the demand, what Spanish-preferring callers do when they reach an English-only line, and how a bilingual front desk with a bilingual person behind it changes the result.
44.9 million US residents aged five and older spoke Spanish at home in 2024, one in seven people, up 21.3% since 2010 against 11.2% population growth; more than half live in California, Texas, and Florida (American Community Survey, via USAFacts) 1. Hispanic consumers are about 20% of the US population with purchasing power above USD 4.1 trillion (Nielsen, 2025) 2. Not all of them need Spanish service: Claritas segments the market by language and finds 18.1% bilingual but Spanish-preferred and 13.3% Spanish-dependent, so 31.4% prefer or depend on Spanish 3. For a business in a heavily Hispanic market, that is roughly one caller in three who would rather, or must, speak Spanish.
Language preference changes behavior in ways that look like ordinary lost business. Globally, 76% of consumers prefer to buy in their own language and 75% are more likely to repurchase when customer care is in their language (CSA Research, 8,709 consumers in 29 countries, 2020) 4. A Spanish-dependent caller who reaches an English voicemail or an English-only receptionist does what any caller does when they cannot get help: 21% immediately call another business and 82% say they will call a competitor (CallRail, 2025) 5. The difference is that your log records an answered call.
Translation apps and “press 2 for Spanish” menus that lead to an English-speaking person do not solve this. Bilingual service means the person, or the AI, actually conducts the conversation in the caller’s language.
Hiring. A bilingual front desk employee, or a bilingual answering service, which exist but often with narrower hours for Spanish than for English; ReceptionHQ, for example, staffs its bilingual team 5am to 7pm Mountain time seven days a week, with English-speaking backup otherwise 6. Abby Connect offers AI and human receptionists in English and Spanish 7. The bilingual hybrid exists at the receptionist level; the question, as always, is who the person is and what they can resolve.
An AI front desk that speaks English and Spanish answers every caller immediately in their language, around the clock, books the appointment, and answers from your documents. When the call needs a person, the handoff goes to someone who speaks the caller’s language and already has the conversation. For the caller, the experience is the same as calling a business that happens to have a bilingual front desk. For you, the Spanish-speaking share of your market stops being a missed-call problem.
Redial’s delivery centers in Tijuana and Mexicali are staffed by natively bilingual English/Spanish teams working in alignment with US Pacific, Mountain, and Central time 8. The AI front desk Redial is previewing, IzzyOps (working name), is designed to handle calls in English and Spanish, and in the Redial model the person behind the handoff is a bilingual Redial agent 9. Bilingual AI with bilingual human backup is offered by some answering services; what is distinct in Redial’s version is a natively bilingual team that can take the handoff today and run your full program as you grow. Spanish-language share, with its resolution and handoff rates, is one of the nine measures Redial intends to publish from pilot data. The Call Center Solutions section’s bilingual support pillar covers staffed bilingual programs in depth 10.
How many of my callers are likely to prefer Spanish?
Nationally, 31.4% of Hispanic consumers prefer or depend on Spanish 3; in heavily Hispanic markets, that can be a third of your callers. Your own log will not show it, because unhelped calls are recorded as answered.
Does a Spanish menu option solve the problem?
Only if it leads to a person or an AI that conducts the conversation in Spanish. A menu that routes to an English-speaking receptionist is not bilingual service.
Can an AI front desk really handle a call in Spanish?
IzzyOps is designed to handle calls in English and Spanish, including booking and answering from your documents. The handoff, in the Redial model, goes to a bilingual person, so the caller is never moved to someone who cannot help.
Do Spanish-speaking customers actually buy differently when served in Spanish?
Research across 29 countries found 75% of consumers are more likely to repurchase when customer care is in their language 4. Language-matched service is a retention lever, not only an acquisition one.
Book a demo of IzzyOps (working name) and listen to a sample call answered in Spanish, booked, confirmed by text, and handed to a bilingual person with the conversation attached. Commercial availability is planned for late 2026 to early 2027.
